Recruiting
Need Volunteers?
Baobab Blast provides helpful tips and suggestions to be sure you’ve got the tools you need to recruit leaders for your Baobab Blast adventure. And because the lessons are appropriate for your congregation and the guides are so easy to follow, volunteers will be eager to be a part of the joy in God’s Great Get-Together.
With your dream list of volunteers in mind and a description of each role, it’s time to start recruiting. Approach the process with an open heart and a positive outlook and you’re sure to put together a stellar group of individuals to make your VBS truly memorable. Start with these helpful hints:
- Start early! Prayerfully consider your needs and how God will touch the lives of the kids who attend Baobab Blast.
- Develop a list of possible staff members. Consider adults of various age groups: youth, college students, retirees, and former VBS staff.
- Build enthusiasm with publicity, posters, and skits during worship time. Set up a Baobab Blast display in the narthex of your church. Provide clear guidelines for each position. Photocopy the staff description sheets/invitation letters found in the Baobab Blast Director Guide for distribution to possible volunteers.
- Insert a volunteer flyer into the church bulletin or enlist the help of a friendly leader to greet people in your narthex or fellowship area.
- Make personal contacts. Have job descriptions and resources available when you meet. Allow time for the volunteer to prayerfully consider the invitation. Always have two or three people in mind for a position.
- Be flexible! Consider shared positions to make use of the gifts of all volunteers.
- Invite former VBS staff to help recruit staff for this year. Their knowledge and experience can help bring in new leaders!
- Approach recruitment with enthusiasm. Let volunteers see how exciting helping with VBS can be!
- Work with your Publicity Volunteer and put together more ideas that are best suited to your congregation.
